Q: How do I know when my roof has problems?
A: All too often, roof problems are discovered after leaking or other serious damage occurs. Periodic (twice-a-year) inspections can often uncover cracked, warped, or missing shingles, loose seams and deteriorated flashings, excessive surface granules accumulating in the gutters or downspouts, and other visible signs of roof problems. Indoors, look for cracked paint, discolored plasterboard, and peeling wallpaper as signs of damaged roof areas. For an illustration please click here.
Q: My roof leaks. Do I need to have it totally replaced?
A: Not necessarily. Leaking can result because some flashings have come loose or because a section of the roof has been damaged. A roof failure, however, is generally irreversible and results from improper installation or choice of materials, or from the installation of a roof system not appropriate to the building.
Q: How do I know that my roof has storm damage?
A: We can inspect your roof and give you our opinion on any damage, and whether or not you need to contact your insurance company. We can also assist you in working with your insurance company.
Q: How quickly can I get an estimate?
A: We can provide you with an estimate within 24-48 hours. Just give us a call at (608) 217-2214 or click here to fill out the request a quote form now.
Q: Do I have to pay for an estimate from RQ Roofing?
A: No. We believe that you should get everything in writing before making your decision, so you can compare quotes confidently; being sure you’re comparing apples to apples.
Q: Do I need to be at my home for the estimate?
A: We at RQ Roofing realize that you work for a living. We have several options if you cannot be at home for the roofing services estimate. We can leave it at your door, email it to you, or fax it to you.
Q: Do I have to deal with my insurance company, or do you?
A: Yes, from meeting your insurance adjuster, to overcoming price discrepancies, through invoicing your insurance company when your job is complete. We work with all insurance companies but we work for you.
Q: Will RQ Roofing pull a permit for my roof?
A: Yes, we will pull all applicable permits. Whoever pulls the permit is ultimately responsible for making sure that your job is done to code. RQ Roofing takes the responsibility for the quality of our work.
Q: What if someone gets injured while working on my home?
A: RQ Roofing is fully insured to protect you from any injuries that can happen to a worker on your property while work is being performed. If a company doesn’t have this insurance and someone gets injured, you could be held responsible for the injuries to that worker. While some roofing companies don’t carry this type of insurance, we at RQ Roofing are glad to take responsibility for our safety procedures and for our workers.
Q: Can I get proof that RQ Roofing is fully insured?
A: Yes. Don’t take anyone’s word that they have insurance. Here at RQ Roofing, if you request it, we give you the contact information for our insurance company and they will be happy to show you proof of our insurance. We handle our business the right way, the ethical way, the way it should be done. We will be happy to get a copy of our workers compensation insurance to you from our insurance company.
Q: Do you need to get inside of my house?
A: We usually do NOT need to get inside of the house, unless the estimate is for a roof leak. Then we will need to get inside to see where the stain is located. However, 95% of the time, we can still obtain the proper measurements and find the problem on the roof.
Q: What is an ice dam?
A: Ice dams are a common problem in the Madison area. Ice dams occur when snow melts near the ridgelines of warm roofs (roofs without adequate ventilation). As the water runs down the roof to the overhang, it cools and freezes. If the snow continues, this melt and freeze process continues and an ice dam can form. The water can seep under the shingles, through the decking, and into the house. This, of course, can cause serious roof leaks, even in freezing temperatures. For an illustration please click here.
The best prevention for ice dams is a well-ventilated (cool) roof. Additional protection for your roof can be applied with an impermeable ice and water membrane. The membrane is installed on top of the decking, under the roofing material.
Q: Do you provide any services other than roofing?
A: No, RQ Roofing is a roofing company. We specialize in roofing and pride ourselves on being the best of the best. If other work is needed we can offer advice on reputable companies that we have worked with before. We have a number of companies that we recommend for other services; just ask us and we will be happy to help.
Q: When do you start the work?
A: About a week or so before we start your roof we will contact you to confirm your address and color of roof and where to place dumpster or truck or trailer for any waste removal.
Q: Do I have to take time off of work while work is being performed on my home?
A: No. We do NOT recommend taking time off of work. However, even though you do NOT need to be home while the work is being performed, it is important that we are able to contact you by phone if we have any questions. Another thing to keep in mind, our schedules sometimes change at the last minute due to weather conditions, changes in scope of work, material availability etc.
Q: What do you need access to when you are working on my house?
A: We need access to a standard 120V electrical outlet and water. On older homes we like to have access to the circuit breaker just in case a fuse gets tripped while we are running our equipment.
Q: How will you protect my landscaping?
A: To make ensure that your landscaping is not affected by the work we perform, we assess your home’s specific needs, and use plywood, tarps, and other appropriate materials to keep your property safe.
Q: How much clean-up will I have to do?
A: None. RQ Roofing believes that when we do the work, we are responsible for cleaning up as well. We clean up every day, with a complete final clean up at the end of the job. You will have no clean-up to do.
